Well that volume 2 cover at least assures me that the shrine maiden doesn’t die. And there seems to be a mage there so that would have their team with 3 front lines, 1 mid guard, and two supports / rear guards. Also the fact that his skills only work on those in front of him Is not really a problem as privoting is quick and its mostly just line of sight minus maybe preferal vision.

Well, this is SHOUNEN BATTLE manga.
GOOD PEOPLE will not die here, they might be in danger of death but MC and his NAKAMAs will also save them.
As you can see, his skill is useful but he need Theresa to kill this Named Boss.
SPOILER: after this boss battle, Valkirie girl will join in. Her skill will be required for the next boss battle.
After another Named Boss battle, 3 more girls join in (2 active member and 1 guest member) (Their skill will be required for the next boss battle)
After another Boss Battle, trigger flag for another member.
After DEFEND TOWN BOSS BATTLE (Which require all member skill), that another member join in.

My memory states different when it comes to battle shounen in general, people can certainly die especially if they are old, prone to accidents, in a comedy manga or in a setting with established after life (even more so if there’s a chance for resurrection) or in some cases if the hero needs an established motivation and the author feels edgy.
Also being a childhood backflash character is always sorta dangerous.

On the bright side, I still shoot a decent grouping even as a ‘scientist’.
Not too impressed with the artwork for the enemies faces though, they look too much like lazy caricatures.
