Mile Chapter 395: Defense Battle 9
『So that’s the case…』(Keragon)
Once Mile explained everything to Keragon, he was convinced right away.
「Yeah, that’s why this ancient ruin here, which original had no supplies or machines to the point where only the physical underground space and lumps of rust remained, suddenly restarted again.
It seems that the Scavenger came here and made some golems and something else, but that doesn’t seem to be what the Ancient Dragons are looking for.
Perhaps, you’re looking for something left over from long ago, like records?」(Mile)
Keragon nodded to Mile.
「So you don’t have to make the demi-humans fight the scavengers and golems anymore, right?
It only ends up causing casualties to the demi-humans.
In the worst-case scenario, the scavengers and golems might perceive Ancient Dragons and demi-humans as enemies and spread that information to their counterparts across the continent, right?
If that happens, it will be difficult to research the ruins.」(Mile)
『Uuu…』(Keragon)
「If that happens, you’ll be the one responsible for it.」(Mile)
『Uuuu…』(Keragon)
「Keragon, the destroyer of the world」(Mile)
『Gyaaaaaaa!!!』(Keragon)
「Hey, don’t bully him so much!」(Maevis)
Saying so, Mavis lightly bopped Mile on the head.
「To offer a helping hand to an ancient dragon, how chivalrous… hang on, you’re shameless!」(Mile)
(TL Note: Mile said so because it’s Maevis who cut his tail)
Ehehe. The demi-humans looked on stunned as Mile and Maevis messed around.
Well, it’s only to be expected.
From the perspective of normal beings, the girls are speaking casually to the Ancient Dragon, a high-ranking entity equivalent to a god.
It’s unthinkable to normally say things like “please give me a break.”
No, if even given that, the existence of a human being that could make the Ancient Dragon take a humble attitude is abnormal in the first place…
「So, what do you say about this…」(Mile)
『Hmmm, everything you said is true.
Our activities are already known to these nations, especially those who are deeply involved with us… our benefactors too.
We will withdraw from this site seeing that it’s a dud, then move to search and survey other candidate sites.』(Keragon)
Keragon suddenly became dignified in talking to Mile in front of the demi-humans, but it was a little too late…
「Ah, but wasn’t Keragon-san’s group part of a combat unit?
Why are you doing the same thing as Beldetes-san, a newbie?」(Mile)
Keragon shrugged his shoulder and answered Mile’s casual question.
『…Because the three of us, all Ancient Dragons, lost and ran with our tail between our legs after facing 4 young human girls…
Don’t make me say it~tttttttttttt!!』(Keragon)
「「「「We’re sorry……」」」」(Red Oath)
『But this is troublesome…』(Keragon)
「Eh, What’s wrong?」(Mile)
Keragon changed the topic, and because it seemed worrisome, Mile asked futhur.
『You see, we have to report this case to the leader because this is an official activity of the Ancient Dragons.
When we do, what do you think that Leader will do when he hears your name again…?』(Keragon)
「「「「Ah~……」」」」(Red Oath)
With in the previous case alone, since that would be the second time the Ancient Dragons were repelled, it would not be strange for a short-tempered and stupid person to immediately dispatch a retaliatory squad.
Perhaps the other Ancient Dragons had desperately persuaded him to stop so that it never came.
However, if the same girls repelled the Ancient Dragons for the third time…
No, but this time the girls didn’t fight the Ancient Dragon.
Although the girls didn’t disturb the investigation of the ruins, after this, the demi-humans would have to report about the scavenger and golems’ attitude toward the “Red Oath”.
Who knows what that leader would think when he heard it.
Even Keragon also has his duties and obligations.
Before, he had promised that “I personally will never do anything against you,” but he still can’t make false reports to his leader, elders, or the patriarchs.
There may be various things such as the possession as an Ancient Dragon …
「Hmm, it can’t be helped…
He’s a Mid-boss who we can’t avoid forver…」(Mile)
「Mid-boss?」(Pauline)
「A mid-boss, you say.」(Maevis)
「You called Ancient Dragon Leader a Mid-boss?
…Well, maybe that’s about right, because it’s Mile after all…」(Rena)
In response to Mile’s murmur, Pauline, Maevis, and Rena had blasé reactions. The concept of a “Mid-boss” is, of course, widely known due to the works of a certain newly-famous writer.
「「「「「「A mid-boss……」」」」」」(Demis)
Apparently, the works of said author are even widely read among the demi-humans.
「So, where is your home, the “Ancient Dragon Village”?」(Mile)
『A little bit southeast from here』(Keragon)
「「「「Eh?」」」」(Red Oath)
“Red Oath” voiced in astonishment, but the others, the Demis, and the merchants weren’t surprised.
Unless they live on a solitary island, there’s no way that no one would not know the place where many Ancient Dragons lived for thousands of years.
It would simply be the area with many sightings of dragons flying to and away from.
Moreover, there have been many people who have searched for the Ancient Dragon’s location, like those want an Ancient Dragon to fulfill their wishes, or others who want to kill a dragon and achieve the title of Dragon Slayer.
It’s normal that Mile was surprised by the reply from Keragon.
Even Rena’s Trio, who had common sense, also thought the “Ancient Dragon Village” is a hidden place.
The girls can’t help but be surprised that it was so close.
「The sea is relatively close to here in the southeast direction, right?」(Mile)
『Ah, close』(Keragon)
While Mile tried to confirm with her face distorted, Keragon responded calmly.
「Is the Ancient Dragon village in the Empire?」(Mile)
Certainly, if it was the case, when you go north along the coastline and enter the Kingdom of Tyrus, it would be in the forest where Red Oath first met Beredetes. And when you cross the sea to the northeast, that would the place where Red Oath met the Keragon’s group.
At the end of the day, it’s not a surprise. After all, this country has many unexplored and steep mountainous areas. So, if you ask, then this is most likely the country where Ancient Dragons might live.

「…So, what should we do, Mile…」(Rena)
「Well, for the time being, Keragon-san can return to his village to report and we will just wait for the result.
We still have the escort duty for the merchants…」(Mile)
Mile casually answered Rena, but…
「I’m not talking about that!
No, what I’m saying is what do we do here?
This country prepared a lot of troops and munitions to attack other countries, but put that on hold to use their military to deal with the demi-human uprising.
The troops have been deployed in the corresponding locations and big merchants are prepared for a war economy by buy more supplies to sell them to the army at higher prices.
…What would they do if the demi-humans suddenly disappeared from here?」(Rena)
「Ah……」(Mile)
No doubt, the invasion of other countries will soon begin.
For starters, to the northeast, there’s kingdom of Tyrus, the home of the Red Oath. In the north, there’s Mile homeland, the Brandel Kingdom, and to the northwest, the Vanorak kingdom too.
「Yes, what should I do ……」(Mile)
「You don’t have to care about that, right?」(Merchant)
「Eh?」(Mile)
The merchants talked to Mile, who was troubled about what to do.
「Originally, this country had already been preparing for war for years.
What happened here just interrupted them for a while, so sooner or later, they will resume.
The reason that the higher ups of this country were worried was that they afraid the demi-humans living in other countries would become upset all at once.
For that reason, they tried to solve the problem in this place first.
After they’re finished, the prepared troops at this place are no longer needed.
So, it’s just a matter of time. It’s not something that should make you worry.」(Merchant)
「Hmmm, certainly it’s like what you said…
But then, after all the demi-humans pull out, the Imperial soldiers will come here to investigate, to find out what the demi-humans had been doing here.
In that case, there will be a battle between the Imperial Soldiers and the golems…」(Mile)
From the perspective of the general public, or rather from the Kingdom of Tyrus, the Imperial soldiers fighting with the Golems should be welcome.
While fighting golems, the soldiers of the Empire will hurt themselves, albeit only slightly, eating away the military budget and adding extra work.
However, due to Mile’s nature, it is impossible to overlook the wasteful use of the golems under her control even if it’s nominal.
「Umu~mu~mu~mu~mu~mu. Ah! That’s it!」(Mile)
Pi~kon (Light Bulb SFX)
Like the cliched cartoon, a lightbulb flashed, and so did Mile’s smile…

Anybody else keep getting messed up with the map and which way is North? Modern maps put North at the top but I guess not this story’s map… North is to the Left (assuming the translation is correct)…. Sigh I just wish the artist would have just put a “N” on the directional in the lower left.

Please look again.
Red Oath is in Alban Empire, along the coachline (the south and the bottom of the map near where Mile mini picture is) right now.
If they go north along the coachline (from bottom to top) they will reach Tyrus Kingdom. Where they met Beredetes.
If they cross the sea to the northeast, they will reach Tristo Kingdom, where the young queen is in love with Maevis and also where they met Keragon.

「Reaching out to the Ancient Dragon is chivalry…
Or rather, it’s thick, hey!」(Mile)
Translation error here:
古竜にも救いの手を差し伸べるとは、何たる騎士道精神……、というか、図太いな、オイ!
the above actually means: “to offer a helping hand to an ancient dragon, how chivalrous… hang on, you’re shameless!”
I believe its Keragon speaking to Maevis and Mile.
図太い (zubotoi) means shameless/cheeky
